The singer won the award, beating his Mavin label mate Korede Bello, then signed YBNL rapper Lil Kesh and G-Worldwide singer Kiss Daniel, among others - the result of which was trailed by controversy fueled by YBNL boss Olamide who didn't agree with the outcome of the announcement, arguing that his artist Kesh was more deserving of the award.  Mavin boss Don Jazzy had something to say about that, and the drama went on till they eventually settled.
