Borussia Dortmund's central defender, Nico Schlotterbeck, has refuted claims of a contract renewal agreement with the club, contrary to recent reports by German newspaper Bild. This leaves his potential departure in June firmly on the table, with Real Madrid among the interested parties.

Following Germany's friendly match against Ghana on Monday, Schlotterbeck addressed the rumors, unequivocally denying that a contract extension with the German club was imminent: "I'm glad you asked, because I read that in the news. To be honest, I have to categorically deny it. Unfortunately, we haven't reached that point yet."

Sebastian Kehl, Dortmund's former sporting director who was leading negotiations with the player, has since left the club. "I negotiated with Sebastian for a long time. Sebastian is no longer here. I was looking forward to the question; what they are saying is not true," the central defender added.

The 26-year-old German international is under contract with Dortmund until 2027, but could still leave this summer if an irresistible offer materializes. This move would prevent him from departing on a free transfer the following year. The German club is reportedly open to negotiating a transfer fee around €70 million, reflecting the strong market demand for the player.

Real Madrid's interest comes amidst a defensive reshuffle. Internally, David Alaba's future at the club beyond next season is uncertain, and doubts also linger regarding Antonio Rüdiger's long-term prospects. This has prompted the *Merengues* to explore alternatives to bolster their central defense.
