Real Madrid has once again set its sights on a Bayern Munich star, but this time it's not Michael Olise. After months of speculation linking the Spanish giants to the French winger, a transfer ultimately didn't materialize as the Bavarian club refused all negotiations, declaring him untouchable. Furthermore, Madrid officially denied any prior interest.
However, according to reports from Germany, the Chamartín-based club is now interested in another Bayern star: Lennart Karl. The 18-year-old attacking midfielder was one of Europe's breakout talents last season. Jamal Musiala's serious injury at the Club World Cup opened up an opportunity for Karl to gain more playing time, and he certainly seized it. Karl played 40 matches for Vincent Kompany's side, scoring 9 goals and providing 8 assists.
His strong performances also earned him a call-up from Julian Nagelsmann for the World Cup. Unfortunately, the Bavarian talent sustained a muscle injury during national team training and had to return home before making his World Cup debut.
Karl's excellent displays have attracted attention from numerous clubs, including Real Madrid, as reported by the newspaper "Bild." His dribbling skills, vision, and ability to unbalance opposing defenses are highly valued by the Spanish club. At the same time, however, Madrid is well aware of how difficult it is to negotiate with Bayern's management for any of their star players. Lennart Karl's contract expires in 2029, and Bayern has already made it a top priority to begin renewal talks as soon as possible.
Last January, Lennart Karl made statements assuring that he would like to play for Real Madrid in the future. "Bayern is a very, very big club. Playing here is a dream. But one day I would like to sign with Real Madrid: that's my dream club, but let's keep it between us," the Bavarian player stated, only to apologize and clarify his words hours later.
Max Eberl, Bayern's sporting director, commented on the situation to clarify it. "The next day he came to us and said: 'I think I said something unpleasant that could be misinterpreted.' For us, the matter is closed. It was never an issue. He performs well on the pitch, feels very comfortable at Bayern, and knows what he has here. That's what matters," the executive explained.
