Read Maggie Rogers' Epic Twitter Response To A Fan Who Told Her to Take Her Top Off
Getting up on stage in front of fans and performing is hard enough. Being sexually harassed while youre doing it just isnt okayand singer-songwriter Maggie Rogers is speaking out about it. Maggie shared a statement on Twitter Sunday, responding to a concert goer who told her to "take your top off" during her set in Austin on Saturday.
The 25-year-old singer ended the show with an acoustic performance of her song "Alaska" and, beforehand, gave a speech that she said was the "most vulnerable part of the set."
Maggie explained that while she was talking about "gratitude and growth and change," two men in the audience started heckling her. According to Maggie, one shouted take your top off, while another said, you cute though.
Yeah, Maggie wasnt cool with that. In her Twitter statement, Maggie said she was stunned, furious, fuming [and] confused by the whole thing. And, she added, on a really basic level, it really hurt my feelings.

Maggie also said that she felt like the hecklers ruined the safe space that she tries to create at her concerts. I step on stage every night and give every part of me, she said. And my community shows up every night and together, we create a safe space to amplify each other. To allow relief. To allow release. Theres a deep amount of trust there.
Maggie said that, when she gets onstage, she has a deep reverence for her craft and the privilege that is making music for my job. Ive been writing and producing music for 10 yearsmy body is my greatest tool for communicating that work.

Maggie didnt say how she reacted to the men on Saturday, but she made it clear that shes not okay with this kind of thing in the future. I want to use this moment to be very, very clear, she said. There is no space for harassment or disrespect or degradation of any kind at my show.
Fans flooded the comments of her tweet to show support, and some even said they were there. "Maggie, I'm so sorry this happened. It changed the entire dynamic of the room in a nanosecond. You handled it thoughtfully and with grace, but I hope that guy got dragged out," one person wrote.
