Toronto Raptors head coach Darko Rajaković sparked debate with his recent comments on the greatest passers in basketball history, showering praise on two Serbian legends of the game: Nikola Jokić and Miloš Teodosić.
The Serbian tactician elaborated on the importance of playmaking, risk-taking, and basketball IQ, explaining why he believes his two compatriots have redefined the art of passing in modern basketball. Rajaković made no secret of his admiration, offering a clear statement on the historical significance of both players.
“I know about passing, because the best passing 'five' in the history of the game is Serbian. You have Nikola Jokić, and the best passing point guard in the history of the game is Miloš Teodosić,” Rajaković stated.
The Raptors coach explained that creativity demands time, freedom, and, crucially, an acceptance of mistakes. “All of that comes with talent. These players need to try things. They have it within them and they need time to understand what works and what doesn’t,” he added.
According to Rajaković, excessive conservatism stifles creativity. “If you always play very conservatively, you might have few turnovers, but you’ll also have few assists.”
Rajaković’s remarks come during yet another impressive season for Nikola Jokić, who continues to redefine the center position. The Serbian star is averaging 27.9 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 10.8 assists across 60 games, shooting 57.3% from the field and 38.8% from three-point range – numbers that underscore his unique blend of scoring and playmaking.
On the other hand, Miloš Teodosić concluded a remarkable career in 2025, leaving an indelible mark on both European basketball and the NBA. Known for his sharp vision, flair, and leadership, he won the EuroLeague and played two seasons for the Clippers, where he averaged 8.0 points and 4.0 assists in 60 games.
Meanwhile, the Raptors are enjoying a competitive season, currently sitting fifth in the Eastern Conference with a 42-32 record, and appear poised to play a significant role in the postseason.
