According to various sources in Chile, the country's round of the World Rally Championship is facing financial difficulties, casting doubt on its place in the 2027 WRC calendar.
The rally's current contract with the WRC promoter has not been renewed, although local authorities in Concepción have already declared their financial support for future editions of the event.
Meanwhile, Argentina is pushing for a return to the WRC calendar, and Chile's troubles could be welcome news for the Argentinians. However, no decision has been made regarding either Chile or Argentina for next year.
Hyundai factory driver Adrien Fourmaux, who finished third in Chile this year, has already expressed his hope that the event will remain in the WRC.
"The stages in Chile are fantastic," explained the Frenchman. "Driving there is a constant attack from corner to corner, while at the same time, you have to manage your tyres."
The 2027 WRC calendar has not yet been presented. Another event facing uncertainty is the Safari Rally, which is also experiencing financial problems and has an unclear future.
