Just as Kawhi Leonard made his return to Toronto—the franchise he led to its only NBA championship—and joined forces with Serbian head coach Darko Rajaković, an injury setback has halted his momentum, with US media reporting that he is facing an extended spell on the sidelines.
While Leonard's issue was initially believed to be minor, trusted NBA insider Chris Haynes reports that the seven-time All-Star will be out of action for at least a month.
Leonard is sidelined due to swelling in his left knee, and Haynes notes that Raptors officials explained the full extent of the injury will only be assessed once the inflammation subsides—expected in three to four weeks. On a positive note, an MRI confirmed there is no major structural damage that would put an end to Leonard's season.
Leonard has featured in just two games so far this season, averaging 19.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists across 26 minutes per contest. Toronto cruised to comfortable victories in both outings, defeating Chicago and Washington.
