The move marks the pinnacle of the Brazilian talent's career, fulfilling an ambition he has pursued since his earliest days in racing.

The American outfit officially confirmed the signing following the Singapore Grand Prix. The Invicta Racing driver will step up to a full-time race seat for the 2027 campaign, partnering Oliver Bearman, who heads into his third consecutive season with the team.

"It feels incredible, and I'm extremely happy. This is what you work your entire life for," Câmara said following the announcement. "It's truly surreal to have achieved it. I can't wait to start working with the team, meet everyone at the factory, and get things underway as soon as possible."

The Brazilian secured his seat following an intense two-day test where he went head-to-head with several strong candidates. His rivals included former Alpine F1 driver Jack Doohan, 2025 Formula 2 champion Leonardo Fornaroli, and Haas reserve driver Ryo Hirakawa.

"Those two days were extremely high-pressure," the 21-year-old reflected. "The circuit was new to me, and so was the team. We had to do a seat fitting, I didn't know everyone yet, and it was a completely unfamiliar environment. You only have two days to get comfortable in the car and deliver the required results. I was worried about tensing up and failing to show what I'm truly capable of, so I just decided to enjoy the chance, knowing an opportunity like this rarely comes twice."

Changing track conditions added another layer of difficulty, but Câmara made the absolute most of his running: "I've always managed to get the best out of myself. Over those days, I focused on applying everything I've learned throughout my years in the junior categories. It was all about concentration and flawless execution of every single run plan."

Haas Team Principal Ayao Komatsu was full of praise for his new driver's composure and pace throughout the decisive test.

"It was impressive to see how quickly he read the grip levels and adapted to the ever-changing circuit conditions," the Haas boss said. "In cooler temperatures, he set a remarkable lap time. Later, as conditions deteriorated and the car became far trickier to handle, Rafa didn't show the slightest hint of panic. He drove strictly to the track conditions. After a four-hour break, the track changed once more, but he immediately set a competitive time and continued to build his pace at an astonishing rate."
Komatsu also highlighted the young Brazilian's mental strength: "Every driver handles pressure differently, but Rafa's approach was spot on. He wasn't obsessing over the final outcome; he focused entirely on what was within his direct control. He aimed to be the best version of himself and maximized every single detail. His overall approach was hugely impressive."
Addressing the selection battle, the team principal added: "It was an extremely tight contest. We were in a fortunate position because every driver on our shortlist gave their absolute all, displaying exceptional professionalism and the right mindset under immense pressure."
