Newly promoted Racing Santander staged a dramatic comeback to secure a 2-1 home victory over Alaves in Saturday's early La Liga fixture. This marks Alaves' first defeat of the season.
The visitors took the lead in the 18th minute when Julen Agirrezabala parried a close-range shot from Ángel Pérez, but was helpless to stop Vile Koski's follow-up. Despite this early setback, the goalkeeper proved impenetrable for the remainder of the match, making a total of seven saves. Racing's hero was Yasir Zabiri, who netted both of their goals. In the 38th minute, the forward scored after a superb through ball from Iñigo Vicente, and then capitalized on a pass from Jorge Salinas in the 53rd minute. Just before the end of regular time, the Cantabrians were reduced to ten men after a VAR review saw substitute André Almeida receive a direct red card. The midfielder raised his foot high, but instead of kicking the ball, he struck Jony Otto's head.
Despite this loss, Alaves remains second in the league standings with 10 points, while Racing has accumulated 7 points, climbing to eighth position.
