The 2012 case which saw Gbawuran commit the atrocious crime against his wife, a graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he threw a burning stove with boiling stew on her over allegations of infidelity, had been swept under the carpet by his colleagues who came up with the damning verdict that the woman actually harmed herself.

But the the Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre (WARDC), a non profit civil rights organization that fights for the rights of abused and violated women, has come out urging the police to reopen the case with a view of bringing the culprit to book.
