5 toxic people you should avoid when starting your business
Starting a business is not easy. In fact, it is probably one of the most difficult tasks anyone can take on.
One of the hardest parts about that is people. People will doubt you and refuse to understand why you do what you do - especially if you are not making money at the start.
To make it easier for you, we have come up with a list of five toxic people you should avoid when you are starting your business:
1. The person who tells you you have only one choice.
You never have only one choice. When someone gives you an ultimatum (pick this OR that), understand that it is a power play. There are always several choices and the 'OR' is just an illusion.
2. The person who tries to make you think you can't be successful without him/her.
You don't need someone else to be successful. Yes, it is good to have a great network and surround yourself with positive, but the idea that you need others to succeed is unhealthy. It gives rise to allowing people use you for their own private gain. Be wary of it.
3. The person who tries to make you feel like you're obligated to take care of them.
You are only responsible for your own happiness, When grown people try to make you feel bad (or guilt trip you) for not spending time with them or not doing things they want, ignore them. It is only a power play to try and control you. If you spend too much time proping other people up, your mind gets conditioned to think sacrificially. Bad for business.
4. People who constantly remind of shortcomings and past mistakes.
Isn't it annoying when you finally make some positive change in your life and someone close just comes to remind you about all the times you have failed? Understand that EVERYONE makes mistakes. EVERYONE fails. A lot. Never let anyone drag you back to your failures.
5. A person who downplays your accomplishments.
Mature people get excited when other people achieve great things. Anyone around you that belittle's your victories (no matter how small) should be avoided. The only to continue to succeed and achieve great things is to cut off people who try to belittle your wins. Major key.
