My wish for you is that you find hands to hold you gently

To shield you from the cold,

I want your tiny eyes to see only love and light when you open them for the first time,

I wish your little legs will grow strong to take you around the world,

May you have your grandmother's large heart and beauty,

The wisdom and forbearance of your grandfather,

The timeless humour, love and subtlety of your uncle,

May your father's image glow brightly from within you,

And your soul as free spirited as your mother's

I ask that the darkness of the world not quench your light,

And that your flaws not mar you but balance your pretty head on your shoulders,

O girl that will come from me,

You will be my only blood sister and friend,

Your tears will be my tears,

Our battles will only be fought on the field of hearts,

Only fights of love,

I can only love you completely

And I long desperately yet, patiently to meet you.
