The familiar sound of footsteps came and she had been expecting. Nora clutched the small knife in her hand tightly and pretended to be asleep, hiding the knife under her pillow so he wouldn't see. Sure enough he came and she could feel him stare. She waited till he climbed on her  and reached to kiss her neck. With the speed of a thunderbolt, she pulled her hand and struck him hard on his right arm with the knife. He staggered back in pain and she jumped up, eyes flashing with anger and she struck again, this time on his left side. He fell and she continued stabbing with a burst of adrenaline, screaming as she did so, leashing out anger that has accumulated over the last four years. He tried to stop her but he was too shocked to react quick enough. She stabbed and stabbed, till she no longer had the strength to, then she stopped. She stood over him in a pool of blood, the darkness that had been in her eyes slowly evaporated, it was replaced by something else, fear. She heard bangs on the door downstairs, must be the gate man, he must have heard her screaming. The banging stopped, she heard running feet downstairs.  Nora wanted to move but couldn't, she stood there transfixed, an eighteen year old murderess. She was not sure of what to do as she noticed the sound of the feet coming closer, she looked at the knife patiently dripping blood on the bloodied body before her. She had to make her decision fast. She knew the gate man well, if he was to see her in this state she was sure he would draw a very unreasonable conclusion and go ahead to shout to the world about it, which implies a police arrest and evidently a court proceedings which could means death for her.She looked at the innocent looking knife again, closed her fist tightly on it and made up her mind, there was no turning back. She quickly stepped away from the dead body and stood behind the door leading into the room waiting for the owner of the footsteps to be revealed. The footsteps seemed to slow down as it approached her room. Nora listened with full attention and her heart beat increased as the steps came nearer. Finally the door opened and a figure stepped into the dark room. Nora waited till the figure came in fully then she made her move, with the help of the dim light streaming in from the window she plunged the knife deep into the figure's back. A female voice screamed and Nora stopped in her tracks, that couldn't be the gate man. Nora reached quickly for the switch and the light came on, Lying there next to her terribly stabbed step-father was an unconscious woman, not just any woman, it was Mrs Stone, Nora's own mother. The knife dropped from her hand as she realised her mistake. How could it be, her mother was not supposed to be home anytime soon. The full weight of her actions dawned on her that moment. Another set of running feet was heard, unmistakenly towards her room. Her eyes darted quickly to where the knife had fallen and she bent to pick it. The door opened before she got back on her feet and she turned to face it, slowly standing up at the same time. Blood-stained knife in hand she faced the gate man who had his gun pointed at her, shock clearly written all over his face at the sight before him.
