Premier League Move Collapsed, but Monaco Now Open Conference League Door for Balogun
Balogun is included among the forwards in the squad list published on UEFA's official website. In contrast, Ansu Fati misses out after picking up an injury during the 1-1 league draw against Lille on October 25, which, according to French outlet L'Équipe, will keep him sidelined for two months.
The 25-year-old American has featured in just five matches this season, each time coming off the bench. On Sunday, he scored Monaco's only goal in a 3-1 defeat at Paris FC. Balogun came close to joining Everton on deadline day in a reported £40 million switch.
However, the move fell through after the Premier League side raised concerns about his fitness during the medical. Monaco subsequently omitted him from their Conference League squad as they still considered selling him to a league with an active transfer window.
The US international caught the eye at the summer World Cup across the USA, Canada, and Mexico, but was also at the center of a major controversy when his red card ban was rescinded following an alleged intervention by US President Donald Trump.
The Principality side opened their European campaign with victories over CSKA Sofia (2-1) and Freiburg (3-0), and will face Danish outfit Nordsjaelland on Thursday, AP reported.
