This summer promises good news for Portuguese coaches regarding their presence and longevity in Europe's Top 5 leagues. For now, the signs are encouraging, and more than just rewarding the coaches themselves, they represent a massive marketing and credibility boost for Portuguese football across Europe. In Brazil and the Middle East, this appreciation for Portuguese coaches remains strong.
As of today, we will have two Portuguese coaches in LaLiga, and we cannot ignore the fact that one of them leads one of the planet's most high-profile clubs. We will also have a coach in Italy with one of the main title contenders, two coaches in Ligue 1, we maintain our aversion to the Bundesliga, and we will have one coach in the Premier League.
It's true that we will maintain the same number as last season, with six Portuguese coaches in the Top 5 leagues. However, the quality of their positioning is now vastly different. Having two Portuguese coaches at clubs with genuine ambitions to win championships and compete for Europe's biggest trophies once again places Portuguese coaches in the global football spotlight.
Adding to this the various Portuguese coaches who continue to excel in the Brasileirão, in Middle Eastern leagues, the three in the Championship, and in diverse African contexts, Portugal is once again positioning itself at the forefront of one of its most valuable football exports: knowledge and talent.
Furthermore, there's the more than likely appointment of a Portuguese coach to the Portuguese National Team. Regardless of individual opinions on who leaves or who might come in, the truth is that this decision will allow the president of the Portuguese Football Federation to build a narrative based on valuing the competence of national coaches to lead Portuguese football's main asset.
In a country with just over 10 million inhabitants, consistently producing coaches, executives, and athletes in such a global and competitive industry should not be seen as normal. It should be viewed as one of the greatest competitive advantages of Portuguese football and sport. We manage to produce talent in leadership, organization, and playing.
