Portugal vies for Bayern prodigy, but has already called up... his twin sister
Flamengo midfielder Yasmim Cardozo has been called up to represent the Portuguese U-18 national team in two friendly matches against Sweden, scheduled for April 9th and 12th. The 17-year-old midfielder, who has already made her senior debut for the Rio de Janeiro club, is the twin sister of Bayern Munich prospect, Maycon Cardozo.
The 17-year-old winger, who has already featured in two first-team matches for the Bavarian giants this season, is currently being courted by both Portugal and Brazil. Born in São Paulo and raised in Thailand, where his father Douglas played between 2010 and 2023, the young athlete holds dual Brazilian and Portuguese nationality. This makes the Bayern gem eligible to represent either national team.
Maycon Cardozo has yet to receive a call-up to the Brazilian U-20 squad, and the Portuguese Football Federation has been closely monitoring the player's progress. While the winger still has to make a decision between Portugal and Brazil, the race for his sister appears to have been won by the FPF.
