Mauricio Pochettino, the current US national team coach, who has been linked with managerial roles at Tottenham and Manchester United, has admitted he misses Premier League football. The Argentine has previously managed three English top-flight clubs – Southampton, Tottenham, and Chelsea. Media speculation suggests he might leave his current position after the summer World Cup to return to England.
“I love the country and its culture, the football culture. For anyone with a competitive spirit who wants to measure themselves against others and test their abilities, it’s the ideal place. You have to give your best,” Pochettino stated in an interview with L’Equipe.
The Argentine revealed that Tottenham had approached him about a potential return to the club six months after he took over at Paris Saint-Germain in 2021.
“It wasn’t just Tottenham. There were other very big clubs too. When that six-month season for me ended, due to the whole COVID situation, there was some instability at the club. I enjoyed the experience at PSG, but I also had other opportunities, which I shared with the club. However, they decided not to listen to any of them,” Pochettino added.
