Peñarroya looks ahead to Paris test

Partizan head coach Joan Peñarroya spoke to the press ahead of the upcoming clash during team practice.

How crucial is it to keep building team chemistry, and what are your expectations heading into Paris?

The most important thing right now is to keep building as a unit. That was only our first game. We put in a solid performance, but a completely new challenge lies ahead. Win or lose, every game is a fresh start. This is our first road trip, and Paris play a completely different brand of basketball compared to Milano. They are a high-quality team that wants to push the tempo and score in the opening seconds of possessions. We must be ready to slow them down, particularly in the first eight to nine seconds of their offense. Defensively, they are extremely aggressive—they switch frequently and apply heavy pressure, especially against pick-and-rolls. — Joan Peñarroya

Many were impressed with your team's defensive display against Milano. What was the key to preparing that defensive performance?

To be truly satisfied, we need to maintain consistency across many more games. It was only the opener, and we still have plenty of room for improvement. Hopefully, we can showcase our full potential again in the next match.

Derek Willis suffered an injury right at the start of the game. How have you adjusted to that setback, and what will Bandja Sy bring to the squad?

It is certainly a setback for us. We already have plenty of depth at that spot, but Derek was only able to play a single minute in our first official game. That makes things difficult. However, we now have Bandja Sy as an option after training with us for the past five days. He traveled with the team to Paris and will be available for this game.

Partizan lose key player to injury

During the opening quarter against Olimpia Milano, Derek Willis suffered an ankle injury that will keep him sidelined for several weeks, the club officially confirmed.

Joan Peñarroya expressed serious concern during his post-match press conference following the 92–76 win over Milano regarding Willis' early ankle injury, and those fears have now materialized.

While initial reports suggested the American power forward would only miss a few days, Partizan issued an official statement the following day confirming Willis will be out for several weeks. The club added that Willis will undergo further medical evaluations in three to four weeks to provide a clearer timeline for his return.
