Paris 2024: Lagos to replicate Olympics success - Sports Commission

The Lagos State Government has set its sights on replicating the success of the Paris 2024 Olympics through a renewed focus on sports development.

Lagos State Sports Commission Director General Lekan Fatodu made the revelation during the Esports and Sports Economy Roundtable held during the Paris Olympics.

The event, hosted by the Lagos State Sports Commission, aimed to spotlight Nigeria's burgeoning sports sector and attract international investment.

Led by Lekan Fatodu, the roundtable brought together government officials, investors, and sports industry leaders to discuss strategies for harnessing the economic potential of traditional and electronic sports.

The Lagos Paris Olympics 2024 Esports and Sports Economy Roundtable featured a distinguished panel of experts who contributed to the discussion on the future of sports in Lagos and Nigeria.

President France Esports, Désiré Koussawo was the lead panellist alongside, Lekan Ajisafe a Philanthropist and sports aficionado, and Mr Mobolaji Ogunlende, Lagos Commissioner for Youth and Social Development among others.

Fatodu emphasised the Lagos State government's commitment to sports development and its vision for establishing the city as a leading sports hub in Africa.

"As the Paris Olympics continue to captivate the world, Lagos has successfully leveraged this global platform to spotlight its sporting ambitions. The roundtable has not only elevated the city's international profile but has also opened new avenues for economic growth through sports.

"All eyes are now on Lagos to see how it will translate the momentum gained from the roundtable into tangible actions. As one participant aptly put it.

"Lagos has not just entered the global sports conversation; it has positioned itself to lead it," Fatodu stated.

The event showcased Lagos' robust infrastructure and supportive government policies, attracting significant interest from international investors.
