A section of Turn 7 at the Baku City Circuit underwent emergency overnight resurfacing after several Formula 1 drivers voiced concerns about the track surface following the second free practice session.
Due to yesterday's high temperatures and the stress from heated tires, the asphalt at Turn 7 began to break up, necessitating the urgent repairs.
Problems had emerged even earlier; before the race weekend began, the approach to Turn 7 was resurfaced, creating a disparity in grip levels and making it challenging for drivers to control their cars.
Additionally, patching work was carried out on various sections of Turns 2, 3, and 4, along with another significant repair at Turn 19.
Yesterday, Arvid Lindblad narrowly avoided a track excursion during the first free practice session at the 90-degree right-hander of Turn 7, managing to regain control and stop on the track. However, in the second session, he crashed at the tricky and narrow Turn 9, admitting the mistake was entirely his own.
Also at Turn 7 yesterday, championship leader Andrea Kimi Antonelli stopped during the first practice session due to a mechanical issue.
