"Our game plan is always to get the ball to me!" Wembanyama candid after Spurs' first Finals win: We know we won't get a hundred chances
The third game of the NBA Finals between the San Antonio Spurs and the New York Knicks has concluded, with the Spurs securing a victory to narrow the series deficit to 2-1.
Following the matchup at Madison Square Garden, Victor Wembanyama addressed the media:
"I'd say our game plan is more or less always the same – to get the ball to me. However, most teams do everything they can to prevent that, which then allows my teammates to capitalize on those situations. But yes, that's always our primary option. And I agree with you, we played with much more control, and that was decisive. I believe difficult situations awaken a greater sense of responsibility in us and push us to be maximally focused on execution. We're aware we won't get a hundred chances." Victor Wembanyama
The brilliant Frenchman also spoke with reporters about the legendary Gregg Popovich, one of the greatest coaches in NBA history, from whom the popular 'Wemby' has learned many lessons:
"Well, regarding Coach Pop, what really stood out, especially for me as a rookie at the time, is how involved he is in social and ethical issues and how dedicated he is to imparting those life values. Sometimes even to people who aren't interested in hearing it at all. But he firmly believes he's doing the right thing, and that's very inspiring. He's a man who uses his influence and platform for truly inspiring and noble causes." Victor Wembanyama
Finally, he emphasized the importance of rest and psychological freshness ahead of crucial games.
"Sometimes I don't feel the need to immediately rewatch the game footage. I just need some time off, for my brain to cool down and to recover. Both physically and mentally," Wembanyama concluded.
