Our Daily Manna Ministries holds Mercy Week to support Widows and Orphans
As part of its efforts to help the needy in the society, Our Daily Manna ministries (ODM) held a two-day event to render financial assistance to orphans and widows.
The event titled Mercy Week held on Saturday June 29, and Sunday June 30, 2019, at the Ketu Alapere and Lekki axes of Lagos State, where the ministry offered free medicals to the people of the communities and also visited the Heritage Home Orphanage, where cash and various gifts items were given out to orphans.
These gestures were replicated at other branches of the church in over 200 countries across the world on Sunday, June 30, 2019.
According to the founder of the ministry, Bishop Dr. Chris Kwakpovwe, the annual event, Mercy Week is a commandment by God to the ministry to give back to the society and show acts of mercy to widows, orphans and the needy.
The Bishop said “The Lord spoke to me last year, he said before you begin the 14 days fast, tell the whole world to show acts of mercy, do good to someone that can not tell you thank you or someone that will not reward you, sow a seed of mercy to the orphanages, to the widows”.
Describing the ministry’s medical outreach as holistic medicine, the Bishop who started publishing Our Daily Manna booklets 23 years ago said his ministry is offering free medical checks because he believes in medicare and spiritual healing power which God has bestowed upon him.
Following the free medical checks and treatment, Our Daily Manna on Sunday, June 30, 2019, offered gift items and cash to widows, widowers and single mothers during the Sunday service at the ministry's headquarters in Ogudu, Lagos.
Also at one of its branches in Lekki, wife of the founder of the ministry, Rev Mrs Ejiro Flora Kwakpovwe oversaw the empowerment programs for widows, widowers and single mothers as well as sharing of gifts items for the needy in the area.
One of the coordinators of the event, Pastor Matha Opiah said the Mercy Week is a means of reaching out to people beyond preaching the gospel.
She said a lot of people are in need of medical care but do not realize the importance of checking and taking care of their health.
According to her; "Some of us just assume we are okay without knowing the importance of checking our numbers all the time. Some people just walk, but they are walking corpses. These medical checks will help them understand their health status. We do this annually as a contribution to our society".
One of the beneficiaries of the free medical checks and treatments, Bisiriyu Maryam expressed her satisfaction with the event saying her neighbour who is a member of Our Daily Manna ministry informed her about it.
“My neighbour told me about the free medical check up and the good part is that there is no discrimination because she knows I am a Muslim and will be attended to. So far, they’ve been very friendly and I am very happy about it”, She said.
In recognition of Bishop Dr. Chris' contribution to the society, one of the sponsors of the Mercy Week, Shell Wellness team presented a gift item to the Bishop during the ministry's medical outreach.
The 2019 edition of Mercy Week was supported by Shell Emzor Pharmaceutical and the Lagos State Government.
