Oscar Piastri and Alpine Drivers Penalized Following Mexico City Grand Prix
A total of three drivers were hit with post-race penalties following the Mexico City Grand Prix, significantly reshaping the points-paying positions at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.
The first driver to be sanctioned was seventh-placed Oscar Piastri. The Australian was handed a 10-second time penalty for an incident with Arvid Lindblad at the start of Lap 59, which forced the British Racing Bulls driver to retire.
Alpine duo Franco Colapinto and Pierre Gasly, who took the chequered flag in eighth and tenth respectively, were also penalized. Colapinto received a 10-second penalty for failing to respect yellow flags, while Gasly was hit with a 30-second sanction for a similar offense. The Frenchman received a harsher punishment for ignoring double waved yellows—a breach that warrants a 10-second stop-and-go penalty, converted into a 30-second time addition after the race.
Following the penalties, Piastri drops to 13th, Colapinto falls to 15th, and Gasly tumbles down to 17th. Consequently, Liam Lawson, Gabriel Bortoleto, Isack Hadjar, and debutant Ryo Hirakawa are promoted to lock in the final four points-paying positions.
