The 41-year-old Sweeney will join the Florida-based team after the NBA Finals, where the Spurs are set to face the New York Knicks. Game 1 of the series is scheduled for Wednesday night.

Sean Sweeney previously served as an assistant coach for the New Jersey Nets, Milwaukee Bucks, Detroit Pistons, and Dallas Mavericks before joining the San Antonio staff in 2025 as the second-in-command to Mitch Johnson.

"Sean brings a tremendous work ethic and a high level of professionalism that is evident in everything he does," commented Magic President Jeff Weltman.

Orlando parted ways with head coach Jamal Mosley in May following their first-round playoff exit, where they lost a series to the Detroit Pistons. The Florida team had initially held a 3-1 series lead but ultimately suffered a comeback defeat.
