Only Thierry Henry surpasses Mohamed Salah in the ranking of the greatest foreign forwards in English football history, according to former Liverpool player and current pundit Jamie Carragher. The Egyptian international's departure from Merseyside was announced on Tuesday, with his contract set to be terminated by mutual consent at the end of the season, making him a free agent.

Salah has won every possible trophy during his nine years at Anfield, and Carragher stated that this marks the end of an incredible era for his former club.

Salah arrived at Liverpool in 2017 in a £34 million transfer from Roma. Since then, no other player has more goals and assists than him (189 and 92 respectively). Carragher firmly believes that Salah has left a greater mark on the Premier League than even Cristiano Ronaldo.

"In the pantheon of foreign forwards in the English league, only Thierry Henry is ahead of Salah in terms of output and consistency," Carragher wrote in his column for The Telegraph.

"Many people will argue that players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Eden Hazard, Gianfranco Zola, Dennis Bergkamp, or Eric Cantona are better than Salah, but in terms of season-after-season consistency, my vote goes to the Egyptian. In his two spells, Ronaldo wasn't for Manchester United what he was for Real Madrid in his prime years. Salah is ahead of him because of the impact he had on the Premier League. In my opinion, he automatically makes the best foreign XI. If the attack is a front three, the other two would be Henry and Ronaldo," Carragher added.

"Salah leaves Liverpool as the third-highest goalscorer in the club's history, behind Ian Rush and Roger Hunt. He is one of the most successful players in the Premier League era. Just a few days ago, Liverpool asked me to compile a top ten of the best players in the club's history. The usual suspects, of course, are Steven Gerrard, Sir Kenny Dalglish, Graeme Souness, John Barnes, and Ian Rush. Salah is right there with them," Carragher concluded, as quoted by BTA.
