One of Manchester City's Most Famous Fans: Does This Tarnish the Title? In Others' Eyes, Yes
Oasis legend and devoted Manchester City fan Noel Gallagher has admitted his surprise at the independent commission's decision, which found the club guilty on 114 out of 115 charges of financial rule breaches. Gallagher emphasized that throughout the process, the Etihad club had assured supporters they would vehemently deny the accusations.
“I'm a bit surprised because the club kept assuring us they would categorically deny all these allegations. So, it was a bit of a shock to find out we were found guilty on all but one. But overall, it's quite sad – sad for the fans and for the players,” Gallagher stated.
However, the musician defended City's players and supporters, asserting that their role was solely to witness the action on the pitch. Therefore, he doesn't believe that any potential transgressions by the management should alter how fans perceive the trophies won by the team.
“Our focus as fans is always on the pitch, and we know what we saw: they won on the pitch. Whatever happens in the boardroom has nothing to do with the supporters or the players. The players won the match and won the title in the 2011/12 season on the pitch. Whether some of those footballers should have been there or not, that has nothing to do with the fans. We were there, we know what we saw. Does it tarnish the title? I suppose in the eyes of everyone else in England, it would, but I know what I saw and I know what I felt,” he added.
