One of Barcelona's Youngsters Offers to Play as Striker if Julián Álvarez Deal Falls Through
Fermín López approaches the new season at Barcelona with his usual drive and enthusiasm, despite the growing competition from new arrivals vying for a starting spot. However, the Spanish midfielder still sees room for a significant addition to the Blaugrana's transfer window: Julián Álvarez. The Barça player believes the Atlético Madrid forward would be a perfect fit for the team's playing style.
“I like him; he’s a great footballer, but ultimately, he’s an Atlético player. I can’t go into more detail. I can only say that he would fit very well into our squad because of the way we play,” Fermín stated in an interview with “Diari ARA.”
Nevertheless, if “the Spider” or another striker doesn't arrive, Fermín himself has offered to play in that position: “I can adapt. I’ve already played as a false nine in Barça’s youth teams. It’s a position similar to my preferred one, which is attacking midfielder. But many players can score goals. Gordon can also play as a central forward, as can Dani Olmo, Raphinha…”
Beyond the striker discussion, Fermín also commented on Rodri’s transfer, one of the most talked-about moves in the market. “He’s a fantastic footballer. A Ballon d'Or winner and a world champion. He’s my teammate in the national team and the best defensive midfielder in the world. He will give us a lot,” the Blaugrana player assured.
“I never thought about returning to Barça and being a first-team player.” This upcoming season will be the third for the player from El Campillo, who admitted in the interview that he never imagined being in this situation while playing for Linares: “I was already thinking about other things, continuing to develop and perhaps reaching the Segunda División, but I never thought about returning to Barça and being a first-team player. I did very well. I scored many goals and improved significantly.”
Everything seems like good news, except for his absence from the World Cup due to injury – something that deeply affected him: “It was a dream for me, and I was in my best form, but I’ve already turned the page. When you’re injured, you learn a lot. You feel alone, so isolated, that you start to appreciate daily life and being healthy. That’s the best lesson I learned during those months.”
