The 38-year-old guard retired from the NBA in August following an 18-season career in the league. His No. 0 will become just the second jersey retired in franchise history, following Nick Collison.

Westbrook was selected fourth overall in the 2008 NBA Draft, just days before the franchise rebranded as the Thunder and relocated from Seattle to Oklahoma City. He spent the first 11 seasons of his career with the team, teaming up with Kevin Durant to turn OKC into a perennial championship contender, though a title eluded them.

Following Durant's departure, Westbrook became the first player since Oscar Robertson to average a triple-double over an entire season in 2016-17, earning Most Valuable Player honors. He repeated the feat over the next two seasons, his final years in a Thunder uniform.

"Many players leave a mark, but only the greats leave a legacy. Russell Westbrook's legacy was built on the court and in the community. His mindset was unwavering, and his dedication was boundless. For all these reasons, Oklahomans claim him as one of their own, and his number will hang forever in the rafters of Oklahoma City," said Thunder General Manager Sam Presti.

Following the 2018-19 season, Westbrook was traded to the Houston Rockets as part of a major overhaul that eventually paved the way to the Thunder's 2024-25 championship title. The guard went on to play for the Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, and Denver Nuggets before wrapping up his career with the Sacramento Kings.

Westbrook is a nine-time NBA All-Star and was selected to the league's 75th Anniversary Team in 2021.
