Mouine Chaabani has been appointed as the new head coach of the Tunisian national team, the Tunisian Football Federation announced on Tuesday. He takes over from Frenchman Hervé Renard following a deeply disappointing 2026 World Cup campaign, which saw the team finish bottom of their group with three losses from three matches.
The 45-year-old Tunisian succeeds Renard, whose tenure as national coach was limited to just the second and third group stage matches. Renard himself had replaced Sabri Lamouchi, who was dismissed after the opening game, a crushing 5-1 defeat to Sweden.
The new coach has signed a four-year contract, which will see him through to the 2030 World Cup, co-hosted by Portugal, Spain, and Morocco. Additionally, three commemorative matches for the tournament's centenary are scheduled to be played in Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
Chaabani, a former coach of Espérance Tunis, led the club to two CAF Champions League titles in 2018 and 2019. He then continued his coaching career in Egypt before moving to Morocco, where he enjoyed a successful spell with Berkane.
