It's official! Stije Resink has joined AZ Alkmaar. The Dutch midfielder has permanently departed Groningen, who will retain a percentage of any future sale, for four million euros. He will, however, continue his career in the Eredivisie, having signed a two-year deal with the Alkmaar club.

Back in January, the 23-year-old was a target for Benfica, but his former club demanded a significantly higher fee than what they ultimately received this summer: 10 million euros. Subsequently, his release clause even dropped to 6 million euros as his contract neared its end.

The transfer ultimately fell through, and Resink suffered a severe injury shortly after the winter transfer window closed. The player is still recovering from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and is not expected to return to action until the end of the year.
