Isack Hadjar has double the reason to celebrate: the French driver is not only returning to competition at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku after missing the last three races due to a left wrist injury, but his contract renewal with Red Bull until the 2027 season has also been made official, where he will continue to be Max Verstappen's teammate.
Thus, the French driver secures a second year with the Milton Keynes-based team, which appears to have found a solid driver pairing after several changes to the second car over the past two years. It's worth remembering that since Checo Pérez's departure at the end of 2024, both Liam Lawson — who replaced Hadjar during his recovery in Zandvoort, Monza, and Madrid — and Yuki Tsunoda have occupied the energy drink team's second seat.
Hadjar's performance convinced Laurent Mekies, Red Bull team principal, who expressed satisfaction with the continuity. "We are thrilled to continue our journey with Isack. Since joining at the beginning of the year, he has been superlative both on and off the track, especially considering it's only his second year in Formula 1, so the renewal was an easy decision," Mekies stated in the official announcement.
The team boss praised the driver's adaptation and dedication: "From the outset, Isack adapted to the team, spending every minute at the factory with his engineers to develop the car, always eager to learn and improve. You can see that since Melbourne, he has handled this jump [from RB to Red Bull] with incredible composure and earned his place."
Mekies also acknowledged that despite recent difficulties due to the injury sustained during the summer break, confidence in Hadjar remains unshaken. "The period since his injury has been tough for him, but the renewal is a statement of how much we believe in him, and we can't wait to see him back on track. He still has a lot to achieve this season, but it's great to know that the drivers, engineers, and everyone at the factory are working in the same direction, committed and together."
In turn, Isack Hadjar was ecstatic about the contract extension. "I am very happy to continue with Red Bull. I joined this team eight months ago and immediately understood the scale and ambition of the organization. There are many talented people at the factory, and we are aware of the privilege it is to drive for such an incredible team alongside a four-time champion like Verstappen," he assured.
"From the moment I signed, I dedicated myself to the team, and with the support of Laurent [Mekies] and everyone in Milton Keynes, I have been able to justify the faith they placed in me. I am always willing to listen, learn, and push myself every day, which makes me even more excited about what's to come," the French driver added.
In the eleven races he competed for Red Bull, Isack Hadjar accumulated 71 points, including a controversial podium in Monaco that was reinstated almost three months after the race, following a behind-the-scenes dispute with his compatriot Pierre Gasly. Now, recovered from his injury, Hadjar is preparing to tackle the second half of his debut season with Red Bull, starting this weekend on the streets of Azerbaijan's capital, from September 24 to 26.
