German international defender Nathaniel Braun has officially joined Bayern Munich from Eintracht Frankfurt in a deal reportedly worth around €55 million. At just 23 years old, Braun established himself as the starting left-back for the German national team at the World Cup. He has signed a five-year contract with Bayern.
Just days ago, the Munich giants spent a similar sum to acquire Moroccan midfielder Ismael Saibari from PSV Eindhoven.
“Bayern is one of the best clubs in the world. It means a lot to me to have the chance to play for this club, and it fills me with pride,” Braun stated regarding his transfer.
“I’ve always dreamed of competing for the most significant trophies at the highest level. I set the highest goals for myself and want to get the most out of myself every day. I quickly got a great feeling during discussions with the management. Vincent Kompany, in particular, showed me how he sees me and my development, and he absolutely convinced me,” he added.
Braun spent two full seasons in Frankfurt after making the step up from second-division Nuremberg in the summer of 2024. The German-American player made 75 official appearances for the “Eagles,” scoring seven goals and providing 13 assists. He has earned eight caps for the senior German national team since his debut under Julian Nagelsmann in October 2025, scoring his first international goal in a 7-1 victory over Curaçao.
“We are delighted to bring a player like Nathaniel to Bayern, who has developed so rapidly but still possesses immense potential and is a player for the future. He made his mark at the World Cup and showed why we have been monitoring him for some time. He will expand our options in both defense and midfield,” said Bayern board member for sport, Max Eberl, about the new signing.
Club CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen added: “Nathaniel has a profile that is highly sought after in modern football. We all believe he is an excellent fit for Bayern. This transfer also underscores our ambition to attract young, top German players to Bayern early on. This has always been part of our DNA and should remain so in the future.”
Braun will intensify competition at left-back for Alphonso Davies, who struggled with injuries during the 2025/26 season. Head coach Kompany has also utilized Tom Bischoff, Konrad Laimer, and Josip Stanisic in this position, despite it not being their natural role.
The Bavarian-born footballer could make his official debut for Bayern when the domestic double winners of the 2025/26 season face Borussia Dortmund for the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup on August 22, before beginning their Bundesliga title defense a week later at home against Stuttgart.
