Prof Itse Sagay who is the Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), has called out Chief Olusegun Obasanjo for his lengthy attack of President Muhammadu Buhari.

In his statement, Obasanjo asked Buhari not to seek re-election in 2019 because he has failed to deliver on the economy, good governance and uniting a fractured nation.

However, Sagay says Obasanjo isn’t in the best position to ask Buhari not to seek re-election in 2019, given that the 'Ebora Owu' sought for a third term while he was president.

Obasanjo's third term agenda perished on the floor of the national assembly even after bags of money were reportedly shared to lawmakers.

Obasanjo was Nigeria's president from 1999 to 2007.

“I saw Obasanjo’s comments and I could not believe my eyes, that a man who tried to get a third term is discouraging someone else from getting a second term. It doesn’t make sense”,The Nation quotes Sagay as saying.

Show respect

Sagay also asked Obasanjo to at least show some respect to other people.

“I think Obasanjo should try and respect other people. He has achieved a lot. He is a great man and I respect him. But he should learn to respect other people and think of them as being, at least, as good as himself.

“I think it is not to want second term. It is most inappropriate, and for a former head of state to say so is most improper.”

The presidency is yet to react to Obasanjo’s letter.
