Nuno Borges has secured his spot in the second round of Roland Garros, following a commanding victory over Argentina's Tomás Martín Etcheverry. Portugal's top-ranked tennis player dominated in straight sets in his opening match at the year's second Grand Slam.
Borges, currently ranked 50th in the world, needed two hours and 25 minutes to dispatch the ATP's 25th-ranked player. Set scores of 6-3, 6-4, and 6-2 sealed the Portuguese player's triumph at the prestigious Parisian clay-court tournament.
In the second round, Nuno Borges will face Serbia's Miomir Kecmanovic, ranked 47th globally, who also won his first-round encounter against Hungary's Fabian Marozsan in straight sets.
It's worth noting that Borges' best performance at Roland Garros came last year when he reached the third round of the competition.
