NSCDC arrests student for allegedly stealing 6 bicycles
Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa, said it had arrested a student of School of Health Technology, Jahun, for allegedly stealing six bicycles belonging to other students.
NSCDC spokesman in the state, Mr Adamu Shehu, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Friday that the suspect was arrested on May 22, at about 2.40 p.m. after he stole a bicycle in the school.
Shehu said that the suspect, aged 20, was arrested in Gadawa quarters in Jahun while trying to board a taxi with the bicycle.
He added that after the arrest, five bicycles, which he confessed to have stolen earlier from the school, were recovered from him.
“A 100-level student of School of Health Technology Jahun, was arrested by our operatives on May 22 in connection with theft of bicycles belonging to his fellow students in the college.
“He was arrested in Gadawa quarters in Jahun town by the roadside while trying to load the bicycles in a taxi.
“The arrest was made following a report from the school over incessant cases of missing bicycles and surveillance was mounted by our operatives on guard duty at the school,” he said.
The spokesman added that the suspect, who confessed to committing the offence, voluntarily stated that he used to take the bicycles to Sara town in Gwaram Local Government Area.
He said that suspect also said that he usually kept the bicycles with a friend from where he disposed them on market days.
According to him, six bicycles valued at N60, 000 were recovered from the suspect.
Shehu added the suspect had been arraigned at a Magistrate’s Court and was remanded in prison custody.
