Norris: Pole Position is a Shock for Us!

Lando Norris secured his third pole position of the 2026 Formula 1 season, triumphing at the Madring circuit in qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix. The McLaren driver stunned his rivals with a phenomenal lap, having already topped the grid-deciding sessions in Hungary and the Netherlands, and now repeating the feat ahead of the championship's 14th round.

This achievement was particularly remarkable given Norris's disrupted Friday preparations. He completed the fewest laps in yesterday's free practice sessions due to a gearbox issue. This marks his third pole in the last four qualifying sessions.

"Oh, that was probably my best lap!" was Norris's initial reaction.
"I'm shocked," the McLaren driver later admitted. "I'm a little surprised to be here right now. My goodness, that was probably one of the best laps I've ever done in my career."

Norris also expressed his immense joy for his team.

"It was one of those laps where everything just clicked. I had a good idea of what I wanted to do. The question was whether my brain would allow me to do it on the final lap. Everything worked out pretty much perfectly. I'm just very happy," Norris reiterated.
