After 11 seasons in the NBA, the former All-Star has decided to head overseas, signing with the Shanghai Sharks. This move puts an end to speculation linking him with a potential switch to Hapoel Tel Aviv, who had reportedly expressed interest in his services.
Russell was selected second overall in the 2015 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers, spending his first two seasons in California. A move to Brooklyn followed, where he played arguably the best basketball of his career and earned an All-Star nod. He later had a highly productive stint with Golden State, averaging 23.6 points, 6.2 assists, and 3.7 rebounds per game.
He then spent three seasons in Minnesota before returning for one-year stints with both the Lakers and the Nets. His most recent spell came with the Dallas Mavericks, where he made 26 appearances last season.
This summer, he left Texas for the Washington Wizards, who subsequently traded him to the Memphis Grizzlies. However, instead of remaining in the NBA, he is now set to continue his career in Asia.
Over the course of his NBA career, Russell averaged 17.0 points, 5.6 assists, and 3.3 rebounds per game.
