Alex Dunne, one of Nikola Tsolov's main rivals in the Formula 2 title fight, completed an IndyCar test at Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama earlier this week.

The Irishman, who currently sits third in the Formula 2 standings behind Rafael Câmara and Tsolov, drove for Dale Coyne Racing. Dunne spent half a day behind the wheel of the No. 19 car, logging 55 laps around the 3.830-kilometer circuit and clocking a personal best time of 1:07.764.

That effort was good enough for second place overall, finishing just behind Hunter McElrea, who topped the timesheets at 1:07.577 after running 104 laps throughout the day for Ed Carpenter Racing. The other two drivers taking part in the test were Conor Daly with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing, who posted a 1:07.830, and Nikita Johnson, who took over Dunne's car in the afternoon and set a 1:08.020.

IndyCar still has four vacant seats for the 2027 season—two at Dale Coyne Racing and two at Juncos Hollinger Racing. Dunne's test outing can certainly be viewed as an audition, especially considering the Irishman's limited prospects of securing a Formula 1 seat in 2027 or beyond.
