Nikola Tsolov secured a tenth-place finish in the first of two Formula 2 qualifying sessions on the streets of Baku.
The Bulgarian Lion recorded his best lap during his initial flying lap in the 20-minute session by the Caspian Sea. He clocked a 1:55.957, a time he was unable to improve upon in his subsequent two attacking runs.
This placed Tsolov tenth, 0.574 seconds behind Alex Dunne, who claimed pole in the first qualifying session with a 1:55.383. His Rodin teammate, Martinius Stenshorne, finished second, just 0.033 seconds adrift. Tsolov's Campos teammate, Noel Leon, took third, ahead of Kush Maini, Rafael Camara, Mari Boya, Sebastian Montoya, Dino Beganovic, and Laurens van Hoepen, who completed the top 10 alongside the Bulgarian Lion.
Consequently, Tsolov will start tomorrow's sprint race from pole position, before lining up tenth for the first of the two main races on the streets of Baku, also scheduled for tomorrow. The second qualifying session, which will determine the grid for Saturday's second main race, is set to begin at 1:45 PM local time.
