Nigeria's u-18 and u-20 male handball teams began their journey in the IHF Trophy 2022 for Africa Zone 3 with emphatic victories on day 1 of the championship held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

Taking a big motivation from the victory of the under-18 team, Nigeria's under-20 Male side, coached by Coach Fidelis Obi went down the wire to effectively and comfortably defeat the under-20 team of Togo 41-22.

Nigeria will want to continue the momentum in both categories as the under-18 team will play against Liberia at 1 pm while the under-20 team play against Niger Republic at 5 pm respectively.

The u-18s are led by Mustapha Isiyaka and the best goalkeeper at the Prudent Energy Handball Premier League 2022, Samuel Obabori.

For the under-20s, Nwodo John and Ahmed Abubakar top the list for the tournament.

The Groups

Nigeria's Under 18 Male team will play in Group A for the under-18 category alongside Benin Republic, Togo and Liberia with the team winning their first match against Togo on Tuesday.

The under-20 team of Nigeria, who will play in Group B alongside Ghana and Niger Republic, got off to a flying start in their opener against Togo.

The Nigerian handball teams were in training under the tutelage of coaches Emeka Nnamani (under-18 coach) and Fidelis Obi (under-20 coach) in Lagos for about two weeks in preparation for the competition which is the last for the Africa Zone in the year.
