'You are what is wrong' by Ahmad Abdullah
This is a poem that rallies the spirit of discipline and integrity. It defines the characteristics of the weaknesses we harbor that eventually leads to our nation's downfall.
Though the our country is falling, we hide behind ignorance and act rather deceitful .
You are what is wrong
You take a step forward
Then a leap backward
You must be a coward
An incompetent steward
You are what is wrong with our nation
You are a fool without notion
For you choose to be blinkered
When your mind always tinkered
You are what is wrong with our nation
You are why we plunge further
You are the reason behind this damnation
That as a nation we continue to suffer
You are the moment that choose to be quiet
When your fellow human is in need
You are everything wrong with our diet
When those with poverty can’t even feed
You are the kinsmen of a tribe
That against other tribes will take a bribe
For naught, for fortunes so fickle
For a price that is so little
You are what is wrong with our nation
You are the child that we had hoped
Will have fared better without salvation
From the womb of a mother you were enveloped
You are disease that is so deadly
A pandemic that has wildly
Eaten through the hearts of fools like you
Corrupt and savage and undisciplined too
You are me when I refuse to identify you
I am you when I choose to ignore you
We are what is wrong with our nation
When we are always afraid of retribution
For how long will we hide under diplomacy?
All in the name of democracy
We are what is wrong with our nation
We are the definition of hypocrisy.
