Newcastle are the richest club in England and have already shown their spending power in the January transfer window.

But their spending spree is set to continue in the summer and they have identified the Union Berlin man as one of their potential targets.

They have already been linked with Osimhen-Awoniyi's international teammate, but the ex-Lille man is unlikely to leave Napoli this summer.

As a result, they have identified Awoniyi as an alternative. Newcastle are likely to face opposition from Southampton, who are also interested in the Nigerian attacker.

Awoniyi left England permanently last summer to join Union Berlin after six years at Liverpool.

The 24-year-old, however, did not play an official game for the first team as he was sent out on loan throughout his six-year stint at the club.

He initially joined Union on a loan spell before he joined them permanently following a successful loan stint.

The Super Eagles star has been arguably the Iron Ones best player this season with 16 goals and four assists in 35 games.
