New Spain International on Abuse from Real Madrid Fans: "It's Normal"

Victor Muñoz is no longer just a sensation in La Liga, but also for the Spanish national team. His debut for "La Roja" against Serbia a few days ago couldn't have been better. He hadn't even spent 10 minutes on the pitch when he scored, capitalizing on a back-heel pass from Ferran Torres. Spain won 3-0, and now everyone eagerly awaits to see him in action again tomorrow (Tuesday) against Egypt.

With 6 goals and 5 assists for Osasuna this season, the winger earned a call-up from Luis de la Fuente, who didn't hesitate to include him in the squad due to Nico Williams' injury absence. Now, everything indicates he could make the final World Cup roster, according to "Sport" reports.

A Dream Turned Nightmare
However, this happy and proud moment sharply contrasts with a terrible experience inflicted upon him by his own fans – at the time, those of Real Madrid. Muñoz was born in Barcelona but came through the youth ranks of the "Royals."

The unpleasant incident occurred during his debut for the senior "Blancos" team in an El Clásico against Barcelona last spring – on May 11, 2025. Real was trailing 4-3 at "Montjuïc" when he entered the pitch in the 88th minute, replacing Vinicius Junior. Shortly after, following a pass from Mbappé, he had a chance to equalize.

Victor Muñoz failed to adjust properly and ultimately missed the one-on-one opportunity against goalkeeper Szczesny, who didn't even need to touch the ball as the Catalan winger's shot went wide. After the match, some "Blancos" fans unleashed all their frustration on him, despite him crying on the pitch, clearly showing his sadness over the missed chance.

Forced to Close Social Media Accounts
"Give up," "you've signed your expulsion from Madrid," or "you're Barcelona's best player" were just some of the unpleasant messages he received, in addition to numerous insults that forced him to close his personal social media profiles. This is a complex situation he recalled during the national team camp, precisely when his name is once again being linked with a return to the "Bernabéu" – the Madrid club has the option to buy him back this summer for 8 million euros.

"From the very first moment he called me, he kept in touch, asking if I was well, instilling confidence, and most importantly, making me feel calm. Luis de la Fuente gives you all the trust in the world. He tells you to play the way you know how, and my teammates also help a lot," the winger admitted regarding the reception from his teammates and the coach.

Regarding the bad experience in a Real Madrid shirt, he assured that it was "something external, you can't control what people say. It's everyday life and, unfortunately, it's normal in football."

Finally, he also expressed his joy at meeting familiar faces like Fermín from his time at La Masia: "You follow them because they are players who have been with you, but until now I hadn't had the chance to cross paths with Fermín again, and the truth is, I get along very well with him," he mentioned.

With the World Cup approaching, Tuesday's match against Egypt will be much more than a friendly – rather, a fiery test to earn a spot on De la Fuente's roster. If he continues this form, it will be difficult to leave Muñoz out of the squad.
