Ongoing changes surrounding the highly anticipated rematch between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao have led to yet another last-minute adjustment of the date and venue. It is now confirmed that the bout, which will be streamed on Netflix, is set to take place at the T-Mobile Arena on Friday evening, September 25.
The fight is reportedly moving to September 26, most likely at the MGM Grand, according to www.boxingscene.com. Initially, the clash was scheduled for September 19 at The Sphere in Las Vegas. However, a decision was ultimately made to relocate to the T-Mobile Arena. The reasons cited include the arena's larger capacity and more VIP suites, as well as Netflix's previous success with Friday night boxing galas, such as those featuring Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano and Anthony Joshua vs. Jake Paul.
"It all comes down to finances and how you can maximize the venue's capacity for the biggest ticket revenue," stated an official who confirmed the final date and venue change, first reported by The Ring Magazine.
While Mayweather prefers the MGM Grand, where he fought 12 consecutive bouts from his triumph over Oscar De La Hoya in 2007 to his last official fight against Andre Berto in 2015, he has also competed at the T-Mobile Arena. This occurred in 2017 against former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor. The first encounter between Mayweather and Pacquiao also took place at the MGM Grand in 2015.
Pacquiao has fought once at the T-Mobile Arena, when he lost a welterweight title bout to Yordenis Ugás in 2021.
