The National Basketball Association (NBA) has suspended Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Dončić for one game without pay due to his 16th technical foul of the season. The Slovenian sensation will miss the Lakers' upcoming Monday clash against the visiting Washington Wizards. Dončić, the league's leading scorer, incurred the technical foul during Friday's victory over Brooklyn.
This automatic suspension will cost Dončić approximately $264,000, which is 1/174th of his annual salary, according to ESPN.
League rules stipulate that after a player's 16th technical foul, an additional one-game suspension without pay will be issued for every subsequent two technical fouls.
The Los Angeles Lakers successfully appealed Luka Dončić's previous technical foul on March 21st.
The 27-year-old Dončić is averaging 33.7 points, 8.2 assists, and 7.8 rebounds for the Lakers (48-26), who currently sit third in the Western Conference with eight regular-season games remaining.
