NBA Star Could Join Jokić! Denver Shows Interest, But One Obstacle Stands in the Way

The Denver Nuggets have shown interest in DeMar DeRozan, but financial constraints could be an insurmountable obstacle in signing the six-time All-Star.

According to journalist Brett Siegel, the Colorado-based team is considering offering the veteran guard only a veteran's minimum contract. On the other hand, DeRozan has no intention of accepting such modest terms and is looking for a team willing to offer him at least a portion, or all, of the mid-level exception (MLE).

The Miami Heat are currently the frontrunners in that race, with approximately $8.9 million available under the aforementioned exception. DeRozan is reportedly very open to a move to Florida if the financial offer is right.

He is one of the best mid-range scorers of the modern NBA era, with a rich fifteen-year career behind him. He left his biggest mark on the Toronto Raptors, where he spent nine seasons and became a club icon, later successfully playing for the San Antonio Spurs and Chicago Bulls.

Although a potential tandem of Nikola Jokić and DeMar DeRozan would look incredibly attractive on the court, the Nuggets' limited budget currently makes this scenario almost impossible, unless the team finds a way to free up additional salary cap space.
