NBA Season's Opening Week Promises Spectacle: LeBron Faces Champions Immediately, Jokic and Nuggets' Start Date Revealed!

Basketball fans are particularly excited that the world's best players will hit the court within the first few days of the season. Nikola Jokic, LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Victor Wembanyama, Jalen Brunson, Luka Doncic, and others will be showcasing their talents across North America.

On October 20th, the New York Knicks will raise their championship banner at Madison Square Garden for the first time since 1973, following their NBA title win in the 2025/26 season.

The top team from the Eastern Conference will face the Celtics, who have undergone a significant roster overhaul and clearly harbor immense ambitions.

The Knicks will hoist their championship banner to the Garden rafters, while a revamped Philadelphia squad aims to make a statement. Notably, LeBron James and Jalen Brown have joined the 76ers.

The Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs engaged in fierce battles last season. They met in the NBA Cup semifinals, where San Antonio edged out a two-point victory, and later in the Western Conference Finals, which the Spurs won 4-3. They faced each other a remarkable 12 times.

On Wednesday, October 21st, Minnesota will visit Miami, marking Giannis Antetokounmpo's debut in a Heat jersey. On the opposing side will be the Timberwolves' new point guard, LaMelo Ball. The same day features a clash between the Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Lakers. A particularly anticipated matchup is between Steph Curry and Luka Doncic.

These two were the only players last season to average at least four three-pointers per game – Curry with 4.4 and Doncic with 4.0. On Thursday, October 22nd, Philadelphia hosts Cleveland, which will be LeBron's first home appearance as a Sixer.

That same day also brings a showdown between Oklahoma City and Denver, pitting two reigning MVP players against each other – Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nikola Jokic. Gilgeous-Alexander has claimed the last two MVP awards, while Jokic boasts three league MVP honors. This will be their first head-to-head encounter of the new season.
