This decision was set during the scheduling of the 2026/27 season, continuing a tradition first introduced by the NBA in 2022. No games were played on Election Day in 2023 or 2024 either, while the league ran a regular slate last year. This year's hiatus marks the fourth across the last five seasons. The action resumes right away on Wednesday, November 4, featuring a packed 14-game slate.

Ahead of the one-day break, the NBA featured a full schedule on Monday with all 30 teams taking the court. Luka Dončić stole the spotlight once again, leading the Los Angeles Lakers to a 138-117 blowout victory over the Miami Heat with 42 points, 13 assists, and seven rebounds.

The Slovenian superstar extended his incredible scoring streak, tallying at least 37 points in five consecutive games while averaging a staggering 43.4 points per contest over that stretch. He posted 45 points and 15 assists against Toronto the previous night and followed it up by draining six three-pointers against Miami.

Nikola Jokić and the Denver Nuggets suffered a 118-110 defeat against the Portland Trail Blazers despite another solid individual outing from the Serbian center. Jokić finished with 26 points, nine rebounds, eight assists, and four steals. However, Denver failed to protect the lead they held throughout most of the first half. Portland mounted a second-half comeback, sparked by Deni Avdija with 28 points and Donovan Clingan with 17 points and 18 rebounds. Jamal Murray led the Nuggets in scoring with 35 points.
