The New York Knicks continued their impressive run, following up a remarkable comeback in Game 1 with another victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, winning 109-93 on Thursday. This puts them up 2-0 in the Eastern Conference Finals of the NBA playoffs.
After overcoming a 22-point deficit in the final quarter of Game 1 on Tuesday, the Knicks secured this win with an 18-0 run early in the third period, allowing them to control the game until the final buzzer.
With this being their ninth consecutive playoff victory, the New York squad, who are in the conference finals for the second year running, are inching closer to an NBA Finals appearance – something they haven't achieved since their loss to the San Antonio Spurs in 1999. The excitement was palpable at Madison Square Garden, with fans chanting "Knicks in four, Knicks in four," dreaming of a 4-0 series sweep.
Individually, Josh Hart, typically known for his defensive prowess, shone on offense, recording a playoff career-high 26 points along with 7 assists. Mikal Bridges contributed 19 points, while Karl-Anthony Towns posted a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds, building on an excellent start to the game.
For the Cavaliers, Donovan Mitchell attempted to keep his team in contention, scoring 26 points, but the visiting team's performance was hampered by a lack of efficiency. The Cavaliers were too wasteful, both from long range (9-of-35, a 25.7% clip) and from the free-throw line (22-of-32).
The Ohio team will host Game 3 on Saturday, where they are virtually obligated to win to stay in the fight for the Eastern Conference Finals.
