Silver Confirms EuroLeague Negotiations

The NBA Commissioner spoke about the ongoing communication with EuroLeague management and confirmed that negotiations are underway.

- We discussed the ongoing negotiations with the EuroLeague. As I've said before, I believe we're making progress there. We believe that NBA Europe would be significantly stronger if we joined forces with the EuroLeague - Silver stated.

He noted that an agreement has not yet been reached, but emphasized that a unified approach is in everyone's best interest:

- It doesn't necessarily have to happen, but we would all be much better off if we presented a united front in Europe - Silver remarked.

In his opening remarks, Silver highlighted that the NBA views the NBA Europe project as a historic opportunity for the league.

- For me, NBA Europe is a historic opportunity to potentially build upon the incredible tradition of European basketball, both in the EuroLeague and in various national leagues. The goal is to elevate everything by creating a combination of new and existing clubs in a European-format competition, modeled after the NBA. We continue to make strides there. We are progressing in discussions with the EuroLeague and expect to have new official announcements in the coming weeks - Silver added.

The NBA's top executive also provided some details regarding the launch date of the NBA Europe project.

- I think if it were up to some club owners, we would wait a bit longer to launch. On the other hand, depending on how far we get in negotiations with the EuroLeague, I believe it's extremely important to launch the new competition in the market as early as next summer. - The initial product you'll likely see in a year will differ from what we'll have once we finally bring all the teams together and officially launch the league. So, the answer is we want to get started. As I hinted earlier, new announcements are coming in the next few months, and those discussions are currently very serious and intense. Adam Silver

New Arenas Across Europe

Silver is optimistic and plans to build new arenas across Europe, but remains cautious regarding the timeline.

- For us, it's crucial to thoroughly consider all the structural issues this project entails — how to set up a player salary system, how to consolidate TV rights, what to do at the local level... There are plans for building several new arenas across Europe. - I reiterate, I am pleased with the progress we are making. I believe our club owners are also satisfied, but everything takes time. We will need a bit more time before we are ready to officially put everything on paper and finalize it - Silver concluded.
